intimate wedding at campsite
castanheira de pêra, portugal
A wedding at a campsite immediately got me excited. I love stepping away from more conventional wedding venues and capturing the couple’s personal story in a more natural way.
This was a true outdoor wedding, surrounded by nature and unpredictability, exactly the kind of setting that makes documentary wedding photography so special.
The weather forecast wasn’t promising, but I still hoped it would hold off. In the end, it didn’t. They experienced everything, rain, cold, sunshine, but always with warmth from everyone around, which is what truly defined the day.
I loved arriving and seeing the ceremony space already set up, with individual chairs that would later be replaced by long tables for dinner. The guests were also fully involved, helping to shape the space throughout the day.
The groom’s entrance definitely left a strong impression, arriving to Money for Nothing by Dire Straits. Some songs just stay with you, eheh.
As the ceremony and much of the day were held entirely in Dutch, I couldn’t understand the words being spoken. Instead, I focused on expressions, connection and emotion, because that is a universal language in wedding photography.
Dinner was a beautiful Indian feast, something completely different and full of flavour. Could I have asked for more.
Days like this are a reminder of why I love photographing real wedding stories, in places where love is all that truly matters.
